I can't really grasp the weight of these machines and the force they put on the ground. The giant tires just look, I don't know, soft, kinda pillow-y.

They're not. You can't even flip one of those tires over by yourself, unless you've trained your body for years. There's nothing light and pillowy about a backhoe.

I think it has to do with the way they bounce. The tires are bad news and the machines are ridiculous, but they're made for each other, and when they bounce it looks like a fun bounce.

It's not. They have to put shocks in the seats of machines like this, and even then they're really rough to drive at even quarter to half speed, especially on rough terrain. I've hit my head on the roof of one before off a bad pothole while getting gas. It's a terrifying bounce once you realize how bad things can go.
