and note how for decades gay activists have never once said "if you don't constantly 'affirm' us round the clock, in every institution, in the news and schools and publishing houses and libraries, if our friends don't go to a cafe beforehand and practice remembering that we're gay, we'll immediately vanish in a puff of smoke and stop being gay the moment any random drive-through clerk accidentally tells us we're not"
