The person who made up the concept of sex and gender being different, Simone de Beauvoir, sexually abused teen girls. Besides that her philosophical ideas have brought so much misery to the world. It was an example of an old woman being jealous of and hating young women.

I think that gender in the way Simone de Beauvoir meant it still has utility in identifying and criticising those superficial things that society imposes on women and men because of their sex - so gender in that sense follows sex - there isn't anything too controversial in that framing.

But gender identities, all the nonsense that Queer Theory brought to the table? Bury it all.
