Well personally I'm inclined to think she's right that women are more attractive. Of course, as a straight male I must acknowledge that I could be biased. But on the other hand, how can I be sure it's not an objective truth? Perhaps we're looking at the result of a Fisherian Runaway*. This seems somewhat consistent with pop-psych ideas about men being "more visual" or women caring more about their mate's status and ability as a provider.

*Interestingly, in animals this usually results in the male being more attractive, but humans are atypical in many ways, so you never know.

I agree with your comment. Women care about a mate's status and ability to provide, which means the visual looks are not so important. Men care about a mate's visual appearance much more since that's what they need from a partner - the ability to carry kids and a healthy body. This is just biological facts. no matter how it sometimes gets some people yelling that "women are gold diggers" or "men are shallow".

That being said, a lot of women pretend to find other women sexy..... to attract men.

Some of it is media as well. Women are social creatures much more so than men, and they find it natural to follow trends. When your media shows you beautiful women all the time and says: "These are beautiful", if you're inclined to form your opinion based on those opinions strongly given around you, you absorb that. You can't ignore your biology, which tells you that you're attracted to men and want men, but you can voice the opinion the group has instilled in you: Women are the attractive ones, men are the functional ones.

Plenty of very handsome men in the world, but we aren't really portrayed in that way. Strong and powerful? Sure. Beautiful and sexual? Not nearly as much as women. Live by movies and streaming TV and you'll be swarmed with the idea of the beautiful, sexual woman... Less so these days, as Hollywood struggles to destroy everything that's beautiful about women, but still.

Well said. I agree 100%.
