I couldn't even begin to imagine how I would have felt if I was a trans person hearing that sentence!

Lol person isn't even trans.

Isn't that most of this internet outrage? It's a bunch of kids going around "oh no look at how horrible other people are, they aren't enlightened like me!".

It's a text post on reddit so jury is out on if the incident even happened or not. It's believable enough to assume such a thing could happen. But you'd have to be a right pathetic dumbass to be offended by it on behalf of non-existent transpeople to go post it on reddit. Hell you'd be a dumbass for wasting time posting it on reddit anyway. So my guess is generally that it's a troll.

I've demonstrated this with people who were too Reddit brained in the past. Make a totally fake story where I'm the victim of something. Zero proof at all, loads of people upvoted it, and anyone pointing out it's a troll, they get downvoted or banned.

You've captured the essence of Reddit.

Those 'people' are "trolling for virtue-signal points", and often are making up stories to cast themselves in the best possible light, while calling others [...phobic | ...ist].

My first exposure to that species was 15 years ago in r/wtf, where someone [said they] "found a lawn jockey in Grandma's attic!! Isn't racism awful? I'm glad I don't know anyone like that!"
