All she had to do was shut up and take her paychecks

And that just sums up the whole thing, doesn't it? How dare a woman have opinions? Doesn't she know she's meant to stand there and look appealing?

That thread is just lies, damned lies and falsehoods. Half of it is lazy guilt by association, where the only thing the other party is guilty of is being associated with her, a loop of association if you will. It's something I've seen too much of recently

What has Rowling actually done wrong?

She's associated with all these nasty people

Ok, and what have they done?

They've founded organisations/ written books that are nasty and trans exclusionary

Have you actually looked into the organisations or read the books?

No, but I know they're nasty and trans exclusionary because they're the kind of people associating with Rowling who's nasty and trans exclusionary

Well of course she did a wrong think. A thought crime. You are allowed to have any opinions you want so long as your opinions are allowed. For all other opinions you are not allowed to have them.

Just look at the pinned message.

This subreddit has rules against bigotry and hatespeech. The sitewide rules prohibit the posting of bigotry and hatespeech. Rowling's views are not welcome here and neither is defending them.

That's basically them saying any dissent is hate speech. What did Rowling say that was hateful? Got a direct quote of it?

Of course asking for that might be seen as defending her? Which they've also decided is hate speech so they have banned it.

Hate speech is really just a meaningless concept that serves as an Orwellian excuse for those in power to doublethink the apparent incongruity between "we allow free speech" with "we censor speech we don't like".

All speech is allowed except for the speech that isn't allowed. Criticism is welcome unless it is not.

Yeah it's interesting how when you ask what she said you don't get what she actually said, just "it's transphobic". What I read from her absolutely wasn't unless you're a complete loon looking to be offended. I bet a lot of the people parroting the she said mean things thing don't actually know what was said.

I don't think many of them even care as much as they pretend. They know what to say to get a round of applause and repeat it. Her games still do well, the latest Strike episode had great viewing figures. They can talk about separating the art and the artist all they like, but really they don't care.

Twitter is just an angry mob. The real travesty of our modern era is that journalists reporting on the mob got sucked in and assimilated.

So many news stories now are about twitter reactions to things. Who the fuck cares? Journalists. Why? Because they are simply parroting their own opinions with social media as am excuse not to go out and actually interview people.

Def feels like an "i can convince people these two lone nutjobs on the internet represent everyone and if you don't agree with them (and me) you're wrong and bad" thing imo.
