The sheer number of de-transitions should tell these kids that this is a horrible mistake. I've heard this exact line from other women; "Brian consumed Breanna", like an alternative personality or another entity took over. It's very sad.

I actually get really mad about reddit and other SM being 'supportive' but not letting people know what can and does go wrong. People should be in possession of all the facts and selling someone a dream just feels cruel. Imagine how alone someone would feel that their surgery is the only one that's gone wrong and can then be pressured into keeping quiet and letting others make the same mistake because "their bad experience shouldn't stop others". It's infuriating.

Oh, I agree completely. Really, you shouldn't even be messing with those parts of your body. There is a lot that can go wrong, and I'm worried these kids aren't being told that. I do think, though, that this will begin to crumple in on itself soon. A lot of young people are de-transitioning, and I've seen some YouTube comments saying things like "thank you so much for sharing this, I think I'll skip bottom surgery!". Good. Maybe some degree of sanity is beginning to push forth. It's a shame it took this long, and claimed so many kids, though.

Yeah there's a weird element in play that makes me super uncomfortable where it feels like those communities don't take surgeries seriously. Anything can go 'right' and you can still die on the operating table. But no yeet those teets is the message that gets sent out. People really need the full picture and the fact that even doctors seem to be...disingenuous/dishonest about it adds to it. It needs to be treated seriously, young girls and boys don't think long term and that's another factor that's incredibly uncomfortable. They're not thinking of being in pain from it being botched 5-10 years from now they're thinking this will fix my problems NOW.

There are a large number of guys online who have a fetish for getting kids to transition and then there's another fetish for getting people to have surgeries or self harm.

They are a big reason this culture exists in trans spaces.

That is genuinely depressing. Especially with the tie ins where it seems to be a very sick form of trolling for some to post unrealistic results to make people think they can have that. It's just so sad for everyone being hurt by it.

This entire movement is based on going with a momentary feeling. Young people don't understand that their ideas, opinions, bodies, brains, and personalities are still developing. They may not feel "trans" five years from now. You can't emotionally phase out of a genuine physical condition, so clearly transgenderism is not a physical condition. It's an emotional / psychological one.

I agree, it's way too shortsighted. And this isn't even, like, a tattoo. It's a double mastectomy or penile inversion. Sheesh. This needs to stop. This needs to be illegal.

I'm hoping the more cases like this come out the more people realise it's fucked up and the more people realise it's not the sunshine and roses that it's being portrayed as. It saddens me that that means more people will suffer, but it also feels like the only option. I'm angry that there's people that aren't being protected and it's encouraged. All we can do is hope that it stops before too many get hurt. Though really I feel like we passed too many at one...

I think we will see people begin to wake up. It's the formerly-trans people who really have the power to stem the tide. People who know what it feels like to want to try to become the opposite sex, only to begin to miss your old body and who you used to me. Sometimes going through Hell and waking up, getting help, and getting out is the only way to learn, and the only way to help others. I agree that it stinks, though.

The trans community really goes after them though, hopefully they'll be able to get their message out without a ton of harassment. I just don't get why the advice wouldn't be "wait" for most people. Being a teen tends to make most people hate their body and I can see that conflating with trans rather than just normal puberty. I can't imagine how it feels to be pushed towards that rather than someone letting them know it's super normal to be uncomfortable at that age.

On the plus side, there's a chance people can use it as the cautionary tale- if you have problems and want to detransition, all your friends in the trans community WILL turn on you and see you as worse than [insert cancelled person of the day for doing it], and you'll have turned anyone on your side now away from you for it. Even making the doctor cut you a check so at least you get money may not help since they'd have the "oh no, you threatened to kill yourself if we didn't do this surgery. Careful what you wish for, you just might get it" aspect that'll see these lawsuits blow up in their faces.

I know. I can't really wrap my head around what the kids these days are going through, and what's being forced on them. I agree, "wait" needs to be the clarion call here. More kids need to hear it.

[–]alladd 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

That's what narcissism does to people. Most of these trans kids are probably living without a future in sight and just planning to neck it when they're no longer young and having fun. They don't think about long term life plans, or kids, or buying a house, or even the idea of aging or taking care of themselves. That would require perspective.

[–]Femaleisnthateful 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think a lot of these kids are completed disconnected from reality. They're spending all their time in a make-believe world of video games and avatars and are literally trying to make their reality fit their fantasy.

[–]Femaleisnthateful 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

It's very telling that the most based and well-adjusted trans people I've seen (at least on YouTube) are the ones who didn't get bottom surgery. Think Blaire White, Buck Angel... the nuttiest ones seem to be the ones who went all in and are now having to double-down because they know there's no going back.

Really puts the lie to the argument that these surgeries are 'gender-affirming', let alone life-saving.

[–]tiny-brown-mug 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah, Blaire White has his head on straight, more or less, with regards to this stuff. I still don't agree with what he's done to his body, but he's way more reasonable and objective than anyone else I've heard on this topic, and the fact that he actually fits into this demographic is telling.

(I refer to MTF guys as guys and he, and FTM women as female and she. That's just how I use language. I feel like that's better, and more honest. I know others may disagree, and that's fine. But the lie that people can change their biological sex has, I think, done a lot of damage, and I don't want to promote that lie.)

Religious groups claim you're the most important person in the world and you matter the most until you've joined the religion, then they throw you by the wayside and treat you like you don't matter again.

That's a sign of narcissistic personality disorder. Having a made up persona take over your original personality. It always eventually comes crashing down causing narcissistic collapse.

That description makes me think of Venom from spider-man. Toxic new self eats the old self.
