It only makes sense to me if there are kids (or other dependents) in the picture. I'm not sexist about this, I had a childless female friend who sat on her ass (or partied) while her husband worked, and I didn't respect her for it. Doesn't bode well for when they have to take on actual responsibility in their lives.

I agree. Staying at home, regardless of your sex, to look after dependents is valid. Staying at home just to relax or party all the time, and mooch off of your partner, is wrong and selfish. I know some women who don’t have children and don’t have jobs, but they help their husbands with their careers and organise events for families and local community. These women contribute to their families and to society in a way.
