Ballots should always be cast and counted by hand. Voting machines aren't safe — not only are there glitches, but there are "glitches", and these machines can easily be hacked.

Even if this is a one-off occurrence — and I bet you it's not — one vote going to the wrong person is one too many.

Yeah, you can use a machine to print it out (less of a voting machine and more of a printer, really), so long as the voter can verify their vote. That's what they use in my state, and it makes it easier, since you don't have to worry about somehow messing your ballot up.

What I'm against is machines storing votes in memory and machines counting the votes. God forbid we use the internet in any way.

I have a few qualifications for ballot printers though. The software should be open source, developed by the government instead of private companies, and run on their own operating system specifically designed for printing ballots. This ensures that insecurities will be found quickly by the public, that so-called "glitches" don't occur, and that we won't have to worry about the operating system as a separate issue. Also if the government develops it, they don't have to buy it, which saves money.

I can probably talk a lot more about ballot printers — however boring that makes me appear — but I'll leave it at that.
