In my center left days, I always thought that affirmative action made sense to level the playing field, but that it must be retired at some point. Instead, it has morphed into this identity horseshit, which came from the very universities that fought to open their doors despite race. Now, race is a weapon used to seek revenge for some imagined oppression. Gay is an ironic symbol of that. "I'm so oppressed and this country is so rooted in systemic racism, I could only become the president of the most prestigious university in the country." And yet, she sees no issue with any other form of bigotry.
