Physicists Create One-Dimensional Noble Gas

Using advanced transmission electron microscopy (TEM) methods, physicists at the University of Nottingham have successfully trapped atoms of krypton inside a carbon nanotube to form a one-dimensional gas.

Notably, the trapped atoms tend to form dimers under these circumstances - an anyon behavior which can be spotted in many other geometrically frustrated systems (a short distance Casimir vacuum analogy of many dark matter phenomena). See also:
