What is the difference between saidit and Reddit? I'm horrible with navigating and understanding technology, but I'm noticing the changes in the audience of Reddit. So I subscribed here because it's smaller, easier to navigate and no more nonsense comments. I'm liking it so far. But what is going to keep saidit from going down the same road? Is the only difference in the moderation being more rational and transparent?

The admins of reddit are actively working to promote pro-government content, they are giving way too much credit to being politically correct and It's overall a SJW cesspool. There's very few places that somewhat tolerate talking about right wing politics and there is a lot of anti-conspiracy propaganda.

Voat is somewhat better in terms of freedom but I'm sure there is a lot of propaganda to paint the site as "alt right" and super anti-semitic. Also, Voat has almost gone bankrupt quite a few times and it will probably be shut down sooner or later, we don't have that problem here on saidit because we need very little money to keep the site up.

Our site would be more centrist. We will do our best to keep moderation as rational as possible and to fight back against the PR firms because we will eventually be attacked much harder in the future.

Is there a way to block users here? (Just automatically mute posts from a particular user?)

SaidIt the same blocking functionality as reddit. Not sure if it hides posts.

Every time Reddit bans subs for practicing wrongthink (Like picking on whats-her-name tennis lady who had a meltdown, who is also the wife of one of Reddit's upper echelon) a boatload of reddit-fugees would show up at voat, and either be completely overwhelmed at the concept of free thought and free speech (which sounded a lot like ten-year-old boys trying out their freedom of speech by being as vulgar as possible) and leave, or overwhelmed by the sheer amount of truth that is opposite all of the safe spaces in reddit, and leave, or worst of all, they would hang around and try to either destroy voat by vote farming until they had enough votes to begin trying to influence the front page by mass down-voting any original content, or stalk / harass / badger users with hate and vitriol and the like.

That's why I came here.

Voat is too much like reddit, in that I can't just browse through some relevant content and have mature discussions about it any more.

Aside from what Hibiki said, we've also removed downvote which should help eliminate brigading/burying content. We're open to further ideas from the community.

As the new guy, I must say I like the concept of being able to upvote something for a more specific reason. And the lack of a downvote also means that if someone is being a jerk, they will simply sit at zero... irrelevant.

Quality of discussion on Reddit has declined as admins try to make it more advertiser-friendly and due to larger userbase.

Voat is a general cesspool of idiots at this point, disagree with the circlejerk and you're downvoted highly, get negative CCP and you can only post or comment 10 times a day.

Saidit is smaller and admins are working to prevent spread and normalization of low-quality discussion.
