I spent 5 years of my life learning spanish. Got a bachelor's degree in Spanish Linguistics, joined a spanish speaking church, got a job translating spanish. I spent 5 years learning this language while any white dude can say they love tacos in a 2mile radius of a latina and have a spanish partner for life. To this day, I know multiple guys that got perfect mexican accents in 6 months because they said they wanted to learn spanish near a latina and she offered to teach them. Even on spanish learning forums, these white dudes have perfect colombian, venezuelan, argentine accents because they mentioned they were white and a bunch of latinas offered to practice spanish with them daily. I'll never forget, I was in Discord with this white dude that had a perfect colombian accent. He said he just started learning spanish 8 months ago. Apparently, he turned his camera on in Voice Chat and this colombian girl asked for his whatsapp. He sat there for 10min talking about how after he gave her his whatsapp, she begged him to call her every single day. Now he's got a perfect spanish accent because he had a latina to talk to daily.
Learning spanish is the most embarrassing thing I've ever done. I spent 5 years working on Spanish. Meanwhile, any white dude can mention they want to learn spanish and have a latina to talk to 24/7. All I've ever wanted is ONE spanish person to be able to talk to daily so I can slowly learn how to mimic their accent and finally have an IDENTIFIABLE spanish. I speak spanish fluently, latinos assume I'm latino, but I don't have a specific country's accent so whenever I'm talking in spanish to someone they always call me a fake latino or tell me I need to actually speak with a specific country's accent/slang.
It's embarrassing. I wish I could just be reborn white and start all over.
