Yeah. It's kind of a running joke for me. For some reason Daily Mail insists on using this phrasing all the time (normally for humans, rather than dogs) and it sounds so weird to me. Sometimes it's even worse, like "Clerk shoots dead man who tried to rob liquor store".
Or here's a good one (real example): GRAPHIC CONTENT: Man shoots dead senior citizen on Facebook WTF does that mean?
