Diversity has been sold as a positive because it's supposed to benefit society and organisations. The only kind of diversity which has been shown to do this is intellectual diversity. Interestingly intellectual diversity does make individuals less happy and more stressed which is why they'll always push against it and indeed in a situation where there's no important decisions being made or discussions being had then there is a fair reason to let people opt out of it.
