There have been for a very long time people with very rare mental disorders that lead them to want to amputate perfectly healthy parts of their bodies. Apparently they are starting to surf on the trans trend as well now.

Wow. Yes, these people need mental health treatment...

It's a really curious condition. But body integrity dysphoria appears to be neurological rather than psychological.

Thats rather unfortunate, I guess mental health treatment isn't likely to be very effective

I think that there's no effective evidence based treatment.

Sufferers do feel better if they amputate the limb, but this is always dangerous, as it's never done in a surgical environment since deciding to amputate a healthy limb is not something that any first world surgical team would contemplate.

No limbs!
Penis? Tits? No Problem!

Not sure how you worked penises and tits into the discussion. But you be you.

Apparently folks are against removing functional limbs but if you suggest lopping off tits or dicks is insane you'll be called a transphobe.

M-F Gender reassignment surgery isn't "lopping off dicks". You have to construct a vagina out of the material so that the patient keeps some sexual function.

Mastectomies are performed. Mostly cancer treatment or avoidance.

A pizza Hut building will always be a Pizza Hut building.

If we're talking about the actual neurological condition yes.

But there are other causes as well. Amputation fetishes are a thing. As well as general assholery from people who pretend they can't walk so they can use handicapped parking spaces and get special treatment at Disneyland and the like.

To the extent of whacking off a limb with a "very sharp power tool"?

[–]Alienhunter 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

Never underestimate the lengths that sex addicts will go to fulfil their fetishes. It's a mental condition in and of itself. But it's more akin to a kind of addiction than anything else.

Now if someone becomes addicted to say, social media and attention from that, they might do something like, lop off a limb to keep that high going. You used to see that sort of thing on 4-chan and whatnot way back in the early 2000's. There was a lot of weird shit in the dark corners of the internet just out there for anyone stupid enough or crazy enough to look for, but for normies it's totally out of sight and they'll never encounter it.

It's not like I can just go to dinner with my friends or pop up at Thanksgiving and drop the topic of conversation "So who has seen the videos online of people amputating themselves?" Without them calling a mental hospital.

Granted I'd like to see this sort of thing get dealt with but the problem with a lot of fringe problems like this is that you can't actually say or do anything about it without getting attacked by both the crazy people incensed that anyone would dare to stop what they are doing on the one side, and the normal people who find the entire idea so horrible and unthinkable that your mere awknoledgement of it paints you as crazy in their eyes.

It's like the tree of knowledge of good and evil. You cannot know evil without corrupting yourself. The thirst for knowledge leads you to know the true disparity of evil. But it also brands you as evil. And you'll be "cast out of the garden".

Yet how can one fight against or stop what one doesn't understand?

This is one of the fundamental issues with society. Most people are blissfully unaware of how evil operates. And that is used by those with evil intentions to further their goals. It's impossible to truly understand evil without first understanding that you are evil, and that's the paradoxical nature of existence, for simply knowing what the difference is in and of itself makes you into that which the innocent fear.

Anyone has the capacity to do great evil to themselves and others at anytime, for no reason, other than simply ability to do so. And that's the true horror of it. Most people spend a lot of time looking in shock and horror at mass murder and the like and wonder how it is that a child can go and kill so many people in school shootings and the like, but they don't understand that asking why is meaningless. The child has simply tasted of the forbidden fruit, gained the knowledge of what evil is, and chosen to do so, for no reason other than simply, they can, and it feels good. Psychotic murderers, sociopaths, all of them, are evil because it's enjoyable to be evil. Self destructive certainly, but damn fun.

Is there a case study of someone cutting off their limb for sexual gratification?

Ever?

[–]Alienhunter 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

A scholarly study, would have significant ethics issues. The linked Atlantic article in the comment section here mentions several cases. There might be studies on those. Worth a look.

[–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

I've never heard of a person cutting off their own limb for sexual gratification.

You've not gone to the dark side of the internet then.
