I hate this trend of people talking to their cameras for 10-20 minutes when really they could cut the padding, compress their content, and present it in 3 minutes, tops.

It's because if a youtube video is longer than 10 mins, it gets a second round of automated ads, which means more income for the creator. So there are scores of videos that are 10:01 long for this exact reason.

AGREED!

Part of it is building a brand, unfortunately, using the lowest hanging timesuck fruit over making superior content.
