Interesting reference to The Diamond Age, a book of which I can't recommend enough as it's stuck in my mind decades later. I'm also happy to see they've developed other ideas about life, consciousness, and the development of A.I. that I've already come up with as well. For example, humans are motivated by suffering that A.I. won't ever experience - but can simulate and thus prioritize its processes.
