It's a leftist magazine that publishes long-form stories and essays, yes. There was one essay a while ago about the history of the feminist movement's relationship with trans issues.

maybe I read it in a different way than they intended due to my perspective. The guy is bluepilled to the max but slowly wakes up, relateable. They might be trying to say he isn't justified, which he shouldn't resort to violence but they don't actually show him doing so which is why I wasn't totally sure about what the ending meant.

Yeah, it's almost as good as The Good Guy by Kristen Roupenian, and just as suicidally depressing. Roupenian's story is basically about a normie who realizes he'll never be women's first choice:
