New law goes into effect across Hawaii Jan. 1, 2024, that will require people who want to get handgun permit to first complete safety training course taught by verified instructor. The problem is HPD has not certified any instructors yet, therefore it will be impossible to get a permit.

Lot of good that will do, look at what one must do to get a driving license. Written test and driving test but 6 months people forget everything and drive like shit. Law enforcement, security guards must re qualify every year and CCW every two years. The US should pass a law that all gun owners must test every year. A safty test and a range test as well.

I have for some decades had an idea each new "gun law" should be examined with the idea "is this what an invading foreign military occupying USA would do" and answer on this point = yes. Quite. The counter claim would be "o we only want those trained to own a gun" and then counter point = "but you the authorities have not provided even one trainer to certify" and State just shrugs o well. So sad. Too bad.
