I think I am so worked about this is because I have ADHD and was diagnosed through testing at age 12. There are people that get addicted to drugs like Adderall and Concerta because they say have ADHD by self diagnosis and get the doctors to give them meds they have no business having. Gatekeeping is a good thing that keeps this shit medical. Having these conditions whether it is being trans, having ADHD, depression ect isn't cool and edgy...they can actually make life difficult and people self diagnosing is not hamless.

Yes, I think this is key too. Gatekeeping is necessary. We have doctors for a reason. People should not just make random decisions based on their own feelings about major changes and medical choices. Structured treatments and checks can help make sure that patients are going along a sensible path and not just random new delusional tangents.

As you say this is happening all over mental health to a point where you may as well just go to a bar. You can basically order what you want at the doctor's office now anyway as long as you know the name...

Apparently we really are growing into a world where people think anyone telling them what to do is wrong. i am so angry at people that refuse to wear masks or demand businesses stay open because their precious feelings.
