It's horrible for the families of these people who are often made to feel responsible for them since they were kids but there's a reason she wasn't in their lives and they are probably better off without her now.

Uh, no. That's a horrible thing to say. You don't know anything about this woman except that she was homeless and has family that loves her. Literally only those two things.

Well yeah, I've actually met quite a few people who have been homeless and are now what you would consider functioning members of society. I'm pretty sure the world and their children are not worse off that they didn't get taken out by an alligator.
