Also excuse me for bringing logic to a circlejerk but if someone really wanted to point out an alarming trend in data, maybe comparing two data points is not the truly best way unless there is no trend IRL

I would, if it were visible in the data. In these data, it's not. Because the charts are from short timelines. Because the author wants to scare you, otherwise they would have chosen longer timelines for their custom-generated graphics.
