When it comes to common people you would expect others to have the common sense of focusing on the most relevant issues in society, but people have a very distorted view of what that is or even think their own self-image is more relevant by itself...
Despite a lot of activists claiming to seek to improve things, they can be rather mediocre and fail to see their own responsibilities to society as a whole. It's something tied to herd behaviour as well, It's the natural result of pop culture and its anti-values.
It's how information can be used as a weapon. There are so many contradicting values and points of view that people don't know what their true responsibilities are. As difficult as it may be, we have to protect ethics and the information related to them if we want to have a decent civilization again.
