One of the world's leading researchers in consciousness studies brings the audience at SAND Italy up to date with the latest research into the relationship between the brain's neuronal firing and consciousness. He explains Penrose's illustrations of nonlocality and superposition as separations in spacetime geometry, focusing in particular on microtubules. He also discusses pi resonance groups in anesthetics and psychedelics, which point to involvement of microtubules, and collapse of the wave function. This is the only scientific explanation of consciousness.

Personally I disagree with the wavefunction collapse = consciousness idea. It is probably a lot more complicated.

But I think that this direction of research is very interesting, as his results show that. A computer or neural network does not work well without some programmer. Random solutions do not work in reality. So having some kind of consciousness active in this, can solve the problem of consciousness.

the reversed causality in the quantum world makes me feel like the 'problem' of consciousness is already being taken care of. it's more than consciousness, it is knowing the future. and exclusively at that; we can't measure it w/o collapsing the wavefunction even. if i am making sense :-)

Good point for an open discussion.

I think that we can approach consciousness as a multidimensional "entity". And this gives us very interesting possibilities.

The quantum-conscious theory is a bit weird though, and I think that the measurement problem is a fallacy in science. See my discussion.

Do you know the 10 experiments of Yan Xin? There you can see that Chi may affect our physical world on all levels. Not just on particles in quantum super-positions. It may be that consciousness has some influence on all levels.

I see consciousness as multidimensional. The mathematical laws of the physical world do not change with other dimensions. Like a movements of balls on a pool table can be expressed perfectly even in 2D. Consciousness can be seen as the people playing a game of pool. In the 3D physical world these are hard-to-catch actions that can cause many following events.
