Humphrey said the LRFOP also posted a billboard along state highways that read, "The Little Rock Police Department is in Need of New Leadership" during Johnson's tenure.

Humphrey's lawsuit also claimed that the LRFOP made "race-tinged smear(s)" against Scott on Facebook during his 2018 election campaign, trying to paint him as a criminal.

This guy clearly doesn't know what the First Amendment is. I agree with the police union; the LRPD needs a new police chief that won't be soft on crime and intimidate political opponents with frivolous lawsuits.

There were always these neat gas stations with all these toys and souvenir.

The gas station here doesn't sell toys, just beer and moldy food. They have to be bribing the health inspector, because one time my mom bought me a donut from there and it was super moldy — never bought food from there again!

Arkansian

Where in tarnation did'yo hear that? It's Arkansan — or Arkansawyer if you prefer Germanic suffixes. I've never heard anyone say the former in my entire life, but the Internet seems to think it's a thing.

One time as a 8yr old brat I was trying to buy this neat rubber band gun but the fat Arkansian proprietor claimed it was broken. 8yr old me didn't think it was.

Odd

You gonna stay there, in Arkansas?

Yeah? I ain't movin.

I guess it's better than Oklahoma or Dallas.

I could never live in a big city — especially one as big as Dallas. I like livin out in the country — partially cause I ain't got'o pay city taxes out here, but also cause it's quiet. My grandpa on my mom's side is from Texas, but I can't remember if he lived in Dallas or not.

My dad used to live along the Oklahoma border — part of the state I unironically want annexed into Arkansas. I used to go stay there every summer, but my dad eventually moved to the Arkansas side (they still own the property). Also, my grandma on my mom's side is from Oklahoma.

I don't want to move to either state, though — Arkansas is my home.

Arkansas Senate, House Pass Anti-Corruption Bill Establishing Uniform Dates for Special Elections by [deleted] in Arkansas

Arkansas Senate, House Pass Anti-Corruption Bill Establishing Uniform Dates for Special Elections

Arkansas SB496, which establishes uniform dates for holding special elections, was passed by both houses of the Arkansas General Assembly, and shall become law if signed by Governor Hutchinson.

Supporters of the bill argue it’s a vital anti-corruption measure to increase voter turnout and prevent local government officials from strategically timing elections to manipulate the outcome.

We’ve all seen these special elections pop up, where they’re held at random or inconvenient times, and the turnout is typically abysmal—sometimes it’s as low as five percent. (Ray)

I’ve had a Mayor, a County Judge, and a Superintendent all tell me we need special elections, we need low voter turnout…to get it passed…the People should be the ones deciding this. (Gonzales)

Opponents argue it would unnecessarily take power away from local governments and flood the bond market, making special elections more costly for school districts. School boards are elected by the community they serve.

In my opinion: this [bill] bypasses the will of the People by both constitutional and local boards to make a local decision. (Wooten)

The bond market could be flooded, so what that means is, for the school districts: it probably will cause them to have to pay higher rates. (Deffenbaugh)

SB496 Arkansas Senate Roll-Call

It easily passed the Senate on the eighteenth of March with twenty-seven Yeas, one Nay, and three Present. Every Republican voted for the bill, joined by only two Democrats and one Independent.

SB496 Arkansas House of Representatives Roll-Call

The House of Representatives had previously defeated a similar bill: HB1368, however, passed SB497 on the first of April with seventy-four Yeas, nine Nays, and four Present. Two Democrats voted against the bill, joined by seven Republicans.

In my opinion: this bill is a step in the right direction to fix our broken electoral system and truly return power to the People. Both my Conservative Democrat Senator and Republican Representative (Gonzales, mentioned above) voted for it.

Arkansas passes bill to ban gender-affirming care for trans youth by [deleted] in Arkansas

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Once puberty hits they pass even less as the other sex.

I ain't never taken puberty blockers — or even hormones — and I pass pretty well. There's been a few times when I've had to tell someone I'm transgender, because they couldn't figure it out. One time my doctor was out, so they had some other guy I've never met fill in, and he asked me if I was pregnant lmao.

So the mental health professional can pump you up with drugs instead.

I never said they should do that. I meant therapy, nor big pharma — which should've been obvious.

Woo, 3% success rate!

Better than zero. Most therapists are terrible at their job, but that's just another part of our broken healthcare system.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I assume you know why these drugs given early are important. Once puberty hits they pass even less as the other sex. If they're going to do it at all, which I'm not for, they might as well do it right.

If you're suicidal: you don't solve that by pumping yourself full of chemicals or permanently modifying your body, you solve that by going to a mental health professional

So the mental health professional can pump you up with drugs instead.

we need them talking to a therapist!

Woo, 3% success rate!

I do agree children can't decide this but it's also important to do early. Quite the conundrum.

Transgender Arkansan killed in Pennsylvania [No evidence of being a hate crime] by [deleted] in Arkansas

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I found this when looking up the SAFE Bill and thought it was interesting. It's about a month old, but I still wan'o talk about it.

My heart really goes out to the victim's family, and it causes me great pain to know that yet another Dixon was murdered in cold blood by a Yankee.

I found another article about this on another website, stating that the murderer was a "convicted wife-killer". A third article on the same website said:

As for Hernandez, her family said Cardena had recently started dating him. Police told Channel 11 that even though the victim was transgender, this was not a hate crime.

This pretty much tells you all you need to know: it was just a case of domestic violence committed by a man who should've never been let back on the streets — not a hateful transphobe answering some far-right call to arms, as the main article tries to make you think. I wonder if alcohol or drugs was involved, since two-thirds of cases like this are committed by alcoholics.

Arkansas Online AKA Democrat-Gazette is a terrible source, even though I use it a lot — they have a blatant left-wing bias, but are often the only source I can find for local news. In my experience: Fox 16 does a better job, but I'm sure they're biased too.

Arkansas passes bill to ban gender-affirming care for trans youth by [deleted] in Arkansas

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

u/Drewski posted a similar article in s/news, so I thought I'd post another one here by a left-wing outlet.

I'm a transgender Arkansan and I support this bill! Why? Children can't make these kinds of decisions! Especially sexual reassignment surgery, which I think should be banned up until age twenty-five, recognized by most scientists as the age of mental maturity.

This isn't a "transphobic" bill. Making the smoking age eighteen doesn't mean you think no one should smoke, just that you think children shouldn't smoke. Children can't make decisions like this, especially when they're permanent and irreversible.

Just like the sports bill: my conservative Senator was the only Democrat to vote for it, while the Independent J. Hendren was the only non-Democrat to vote against it. (At least that's what I believe, I didn't check every name this time, but they looked the same).

Here's an in-depth break-down of the article that took me over half an hour to write:

including reversible puberty blockers and hormones.

They might be reversible, but these can stunt a child's growth and render them incapable of ever knowing if they're actually transgender, since hormones can play a role. A lot of kids think they're trans, but grow out of it — you can't be sure until you're an adult.

The bill now heads to Gov. Asa Hutchinson, a Republican. Unless he vetoes it, Arkansas will become the first state to ban gender-affirming care for trans youth.

The Governor's veto is worthless! It only takes a simple majority to override him — and if the bill's on his desk: it already got that — so it's really just a useless, ceremonial power. This really ain't related to the topic at hand, but I wanted to get that off my chest.

Strangio and trans people in Arkansas, Tennessee and Alabama are afraid of what the next week and months will look like as more states hear and pass anti-trans bills.

I really do hate slippery slope arguments. You can't argue against a good policy just because you think your opponents will pass a bad policy later.

I really worry about the fact that we're just a few votes away from some of the most sweeping and damaging and potentially genocidal laws from ever being passed

How do you go from protecting children from making choices that can ruin their lives to literal mass murder? This bill doesn't even ban SRS until ate twenty-five, which is my position — as a transwoman.

just after the bill passed the House, there were “multiple kids in our emergency room because of an attempted suicide, just in the last week.”

If you're suicidal: you don't solve that by pumping yourself full of chemicals or permanently modifying your body, you solve that by going to a mental health professional. I understand being upset over everyone disrespecting you all the time — and bullying is a major problem in schools — but I just don't see why having a penis or a vagina would make you want to kill yourself.

I will note that Arkansas requires SRS to legally change your sex marker on your birth certificate, which does push people towards having it — but the State lets you change it on your DL no questions asked; that's what I did.

It's just expected that if this passes, it will cost lives

You know what costs lives? Inadequate mental healthcare — that's what we need: universal healthcare! We don't need kids surgically modifying their genitals, we need them talking to a therapist! Go at it when you're an adult, but you've got'o wait till then.

It's already difficult enough to survive here, when they're not actively creating more laws to oppress us.

Yeah, it ain't easy, but I ain't exactly "oppressed" because children can't permanently modify their genitals. This bill doesn't ban sexual reassignment surgery, it just says you've got'o wait til you're an adult.

Strangio said Alabama’s bill, which the state Senate passed this month, is the most extreme medical bill so far, because it would ban care for trans people up to 19 years old

How "extreme" am I for wanting to ban SRS until age twenty-five? You can't call me transphobic if I'm transgender.

If either Arkansas or Alabama passes their bills, trans young people who are already receiving care will lose it, Strangio said. Zuriel Hooks, 18, a trans client of the Knights and Orchids Society, which supports trans people in Alabama, said she would be “devastated” if that happens.

You've just got'o wait a few months, but I do believe the age should be eighteen for hormones, not nineteen.

Alabama’s bill would also require school personnel to “out” students and tell their parents if they say their gender or sex is inconsistent with their assigned sex at birth.

This ain't in Arkansas' version of the bill, but I heavily oppose this, because it ain't safe! Do you want parents to abuse and murder their children? Because this is how that happens! This bill is supposed to be about protecting children, not ge'n 'em killed!

I didn't know this was in Alabama's bill when I publicly supported it (I really should've done more research), but I do support the rest of the bill, apart from the age.

Even though I'm transgender, I lean towards supporting the bill, since biological males tend to do better in sports than biological females.

In the Senate:

The only Democrat who voted for the Bill was Larry Teague, a Conservative Democrat and my Senator, who literally only won just because the Republicans didn't find a candidate in time.

The only person who voted against the bill who wasn't a Democrat was Independent Jim Hendren, a former Republican who left the party over Trump's claim that the election was stolen. (I should probably post the old article about him).

This bill is very personal for me. I've experienced first-hand why we need a safe housing bill. For a few months, when I was about eleven or twelve, I lived in a house with a one- or two-inch gap between the wall and floor that just went right outside — and that's legal! (I think; not legal advice) I remember dropping my 3DS stylus under there one time, and my mom was not enthused about crawling under the house for it...

I'm starting to like this Gazaway guy. He voted for the "Stand Your Ground" bill, as well as HB1368, which was an anti-corruption bill that failed by one vote. My representative voted for both of those, and he better vote for this bill too.

Took months to do it, but they finally got it out of committee by one vote, and it passed in both chambers by a land-slide. I'm fairly certain the Governor will sign it.

They call the bill "controversial", but really it was just crazy Democrats blocking it. They only have around one-fourth of the seats in the House, yet they have nine out of nine-teen of the seats on the House Judiciary Committee. Who allowed this to happen?

Hopefully we'll shake-off this sorry excuse for an Arkansan and get another third-party candidate into Congress. I'm not a Libertarian, but I'll be voting for Harrington in November because I believe the People need to seize back power from the corrupt monopoly of the Democratic-Republican establishment.

I actually disagree with Harrington on most of the issues, but he's got integrity, and that's what matters to me the most. The issues don't matter if you can't trust that they actually believe in them.

Senator Cotton will win re-election because Arkansans want him to continue to fight for Arkansas values in the Senate

Arkansas values? You're actually pretending this man gives a shit about our values? He cares about one thing: money. He's not even a true Southerner, he's a Southern Yank who sold-out our People and homeland to Northern bankers and billionaires. The only Arkansans he represents are the Waltons, and they're a bunch of Southern Yanks too.

If he cared about Arkansas values, he'd do what most Arkansans want him to: stop taxing the lower classes and small businesses to death, and actually do something to improve the quality of life in the third-poorest state in the union.

He appeals to the prejudices of the ignorant, who know not of his true intentions, in order to manipulate them. So what if he fights against gay marriage if you can't feed your kids? So what if he opposes abortion if you can't make ends meet?

And Arkansas has shown time and time again that we have no loyalties to any politician or party. We'll get rid of the Republicans as quick as we got rid of the Democrats if they keep doing such a terrible job. It only took 4 years last time.

Anyways, that's the end of my rant.
