Twitter's primary purpose is to get the user's cellphone number.
It is bait and switch.
They sucker you in by allowing you to join without any strings attached. Just an email address will do...
That is until you get about 50 followers. Twitter knows by that point you probably will have got hooked. You joined groups, created and uploaded content, invested time in becoming part of the twitter community.
That is when twitter moderators are tasked with contriving a reason to hold your account to ransom.
The typical notification to deplatform you pops up:
YOU HAVE VIOLATED TWITTER RULES: hateful conduct.
Your Account has been suspended until you;
- Verify Your Phone Number
- Delete The Offending Tweet
Most people are incredulous because they know they were not hateful but they don't seem to realize Twitter doesn't care if they were or not.
The accusation of bad conduct is a ruse. It is a lie.
It is the same mechanism that those with evil intent use to attribute guilt for their actions onto the victim.
It is so the user will feel it is their own fault that the Twitter corporation is demanding their private cellphone number that links their real world identity to all their thoughts and opinions and the location tracking properties of their phone.
