Thanks Mark, good to hear from you too :) hope you've been doing well!

Really? It works for me... hmm. I've heard of people having problems with the archive website individually, might be that.

Anyone remember seeing this study before? From 2017, comparing trans/cis brain structure WITH sexuality taken into account?
reluctant_commenter 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun 5 months ago

This was my understanding as well.

It's frustrating that these findings have been so downplayed and warped by trans rights activists, while they cherrypick and distort other studies to promote puberty blockers and claim to be "pro-science."

I completely agree. It sure made it hard for me when I was trying to figure out my sexual orientation.

I see you have "questioning" as your flair; I hope that this problem hasn't affected you too much.

Good god, you weren't joking. These comments just scream men pretending to be the "lesbians" they saw in a porno.

Uh. Them. They said gay and horny and I don't know a consistently more gay and horny group than us.

I don't even want to know how many of these creepy perverts go to that sub just to beat their meat 🙄

And it is sad that lesbian women who have only recently realized their sexual orientation will meet those disgusting sexists first, rather than a supportive community. I was one of those women, several years ago... glad I eventually found my way to saner waters.

Kind of can't believe we're almost to December already. Anyone do any Black Friday shopping?

Thanks for sharing. This article actually does a pretty decent job of summarizing what's been going on... it's nice to see that, because it seems to me like whenever a pro-LGB viewpoint does hit a mainstream media outlet, it only includes information about one facet of trans homophobia or a couple of isolated anti-LGB/anti-women incidents.

Thanks for sharing, I'll take a read as soon as I've summoned enough brain cells to do so.

It's disappointing but unsurprising that the TQ+ disruption of LGB rights and spaces has been going on for decades.

Trans pussy turned me straight
reluctant_commenter 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun 5 months ago

It seems like there's a lot of pressure for bi men/boys to say that they are gay, and a lot of pressure for bi women/girls to say that they are straight. Either way, attraction to men is prioritized.

I'm kinda surprised there aren't more commenters on that post pointing out this pattern because it seems so ubiquitous. Then again, IIRC that subreddit got taken over and majorly censored a while ago, so maybe the real ones have already moved on.

And no, "trans pussy" can't turn you straight 🙄 if you're into both men and women then you were always bi... I wish people were more open to the possibility that they might have learned something new about themselves and it's ok to have been wrong at first, rather than assuming something mistaken about the entire nature of sexual orientation.

Prisons ordered to remove Pride flags that ‘promote gender ideology’
reluctant_commenter 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun 5 months ago

It's so nice to hear people being sane in public.

Mr Fletcher, the Tory MP for Don Valley, said: “The Progress Pride flag promotes the idea you can be born in the wrong body. You can’t. This ideology harms vulnerable people. I’m pleased the Secretary of State for Justice has taken action.

“Much more work is needed from Government ministers to remove the influence of this ideology from across government departments. It undermines science, free speech, women’s rights, and child safeguarding.”

Really wish the US could take a leaf from the UK's pages... it seems like we're still so behind many other countries.

There's an international lesbian day? Why is it in October? Did someone just pick a day at random?

Also, great to know "UN Women" (I assumed this is actually affiliated with the UN) is sexist and homophobic towards lesbians.

Do you feel like this controversy has fine-tuned your trans radar?
reluctant_commenter 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun 7 months ago

That's an interesting question. There are so many interesting meta-level details like that of how gender identity ideology has become pervasive in our culture and affected us. I think my "trans radar" has gotten better, too, although perhaps not as sharp as yours.

I think it's a natural consequence of finding out that people are trying to lie to you in a certain way, and then being more on the lookout in the future for that type of lie. Like having someone try to scam you, and then learning more about that type of scam afterwards, and being much quicker to catch on the next time it happens.

I honestly dont think most real-life trans people are a part of the agenda.

Oh man... I think this may be a generational difference, haha. I've never met a self-identified trans person who wasn't on board with gender identity religion and "queer identity" culture. The many trans people I knew IRL in college were walking, talking stereotypes, fairly similar to the trans people featured in posts on this sub-- just less violent (at least, less openly violent). Perhaps I would get along much better with the trans people you are describing. These types just so dominate "trans" discussion and communities these days, IRL and seemingly online as well.

I am not totally sure I believe in "real trans people" either, since it seems like gender dysphoria is a mismash of like a dozen different etiologies. But I know our sub is kind of split on that one (or at least, was 2 years ago whenever I last saw an informal poll, lol).

I think the internet exploded into social media for regular people, and propoganda for the ruling class. It's made everything feel a lot more extreme than it really is. It has definitely made me side-eye a lot more though, and be cautious about who I interact with and how.

Yup.

reluctant_commenter 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun 7 months ago

So basically same goes for queer.

Oh yeah for sure. I just hate that people in woke cubculture are trying to do this for the word "gay," too. It's harmful to LGB people.

To be fair I prefer to look the opposite way to queer lol.

Yeah same lol. I used to think I would not fit in at all with other LGB people because I thought that the subculture of dyed hair, awful haircut, language censoring and identity hierarchy was what most other LGB people believed in. But now I am aware that people from that subculture are overwhelmingly straight identity tourists, and that many (most?) LGB people don't participate in that subculture at all :)

That reminds me how some kweers cry about the idea of not being seen as "queer enough." What the fuck does it even mean?

They seem desperate to be seen as fitting the aesthetic, is how I have come to understand that phrase, in order to be accepted by other people who believe in their ideology, the "queer theory" flavor of postmodernism. (Maybe you were asking rhetorically but I am tired, sorry lol.) I am not in goth subculture but to draw an example, I would compare it to someone asking if they were "goth enough." Or better yet, a Christian asking if they were "righteous enough" or some shit. If you apply it to sexual orientation, it makes even less sense: logically, there's no such thing as "gay enough" or "bi enough"; you are either gay or not, bi or not, etc. Homophobic liberals who buy into "queer theory" don't seem to view LGB people as simply people living their lives who happen to date the same sex; they view "gay" and "queer" as pronouncements of beliefs and adherence to the postmodernist ideology of "queer theory". And there is no winning acceptance in postmodernist "queer theory".

Fixating on being perceived as "queer enough" is therefore a fruitless goal because 1) the goalposts keep moving in in this ideology and 2) more generally, basing your self-esteem on how others perceive you is not really a recipe for success...

"Women and non binary" tech conference mysteriously overrun with males identify as non binary. No lessons learned.
reluctant_commenter 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun 7 months ago

Fuck. I went to Grace Hopper just a few years ago and it was nothing like this. :( It's gotten so much worse...

When I went, I guess roughly 4-5 years ago now, there were a few random guys I saw there and my friends and I wondered what the hell they were doing there. But that was like, 1 in 100 people or fewer. Not like in that picture.

Selfish fucks. I'm not surprised in the least that there are men willing to stoop that low. It makes me incredibly sad. Men so dominate coding-heavy fields, and this was a place where you could see thousands of women all into coding and tech-related stuff. It was a rarity. And the talks I went to were great... I'm not surprised that men opportunistic enough to lie and pretend they're women and expect other people to lie, would make a beeline for the employer booths.

For context, Grace Hopper used to be a way for women to get a little more access to tech companies that pay competitive salaries. Many of these companies are heavily biased to hire men anyway (especially FAANG). Now, looks like it's just another way for companies to virtue signal even more blatantly...

I might add more later, I'm having a hard time putting this into words. It's just disturbing to see an event I have actually experienced myself be so drastically impacted and harmed in such a short span of time.

I think that OP may just be a garden-variety troll... just looking at their history, lol. Couldn't've happened to a nicer subreddit.

That said, the genuine responses the commenters are eyeroll-worthy.

"all women who are attracted to women are lesbians" apparently bisexuals don't exist..

Depends on what you mean by gay. But generally that's the correct term for a WlW.

"gay != lesbian" they've watered down the word "gay" so much... more homosexual erasure.

I mean, you can be a gay woman and not be lesbian.

"Lesbians are non-men attracted to non-men" 1. we're called women, you sexist, 2. that is still incorrect, lesbians are women who are only attracted to women...

well if they're non-men attracted to non-men and the person is comfortable then yes it's not offensive at all, it's the correct term

I find it striking how insistent the commenters are on calling themselves gay when they are clearly not homosexual and a number don't even claim to be same sex attracted at all (and I have no idea how many bisexual-identified people on that sub are straight LARPers). It is so clear to me that so many straight people in the LGBTQ movement see "gay" not as a sexual orientation, but as a desirable aesthetic-- a set of trendy habits, a haircut, a certain style of clothes and mannerisms, which bestow virtue upon the posturer.

I truly hope LGB people can build spaces for ourselves and our own experiences, in the short term and the long run.

Next LGB Alliance (UK) conference on October 27th!

Good stuff. I hadn't heard of a few of those groups; it's good to see more and more reality-recognizing, pro-equality groups of all sorts are starting to connect with each other.

I hope they release youtube videos of the speeches like they've done before.

I have multiple close friends who've had a lot going on in the last year, too. I hope you are able to get to where you want to soon.
