[–]Dracula[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

How about vampires in video games?

Sure that's fine. Like the second rule in the side bar says, only content and discussions that are related to the vampire mythology, the history of vampire lore, and cases of vampirism throughout history.

Vampires in politics (pedogate, banksters, insurance, big pharma, Bill Gates, etc)

No, these topics don't have anything to do with fictional vampires and vampire mythology, which is what this sub is about. Also, the third rule in the side bar clearly states No Politics of any kind, and only certain exceptions will be made. For example, if the story is set in a dystopian future where humans and vampires coexist, then the political structure of that society needs to be explained for better context.

vampires in the animal kingdom (mosquitoes, leaches, bats, etc)? Or my favourite at Burning Man: Vampyros - vampires who like to play with fire. Fire good!

Animals who thrive and feed on blood have vampiric habits and characteristics, but this sub is about sharing content about fictional vampires and their mythology. That said, I'll allow posts about vampiric animals depending on certain circumstances, and I'll especially allow the post if it's about an animal that has a connection to some kind of cultural vampire lore.

Another exception is discussions and content about actual people who believe that they are real-life vampires and who have some sort of blood fetish/psychological obsession with blood. That topic is related to the vampire mythos, even though it's a reality-based topic. Basically, you can post any kind of content that has to do with fictional vampires and the vampire mythology that are from different cultures, time periods and mediums.

I was a vampire in the 4th grade for Hallowe'en. I loved Bram Stoker's Dracula, Queen Of The Damned, and Interview With A Vampire despite their flaws. Dracula 2000 and True Blood were okay at best. I kinda feel like it's all slid downhill since then, though I wish it wouldn't. I think the Tom Cruise Mummy had some great moments (ie. zero-G in a plane) but I see why it flopped, and sadly the Universal Monsters franchise died before it was born. To revive/improve vampire stories they need good narrative structure, compelling characters, and heaps of style (Guillermo del Toro, old Tim Burton, etc).

Yeah, I like horror movies too, especially vampire films, and I definitely agree, if anyone can direct a great vampire movie with a compelling story, It's del Toro and Tim Burton in his prime.

You know, I visited there once years ago, and I was really disappointed. The pics always make it look really in-your-face (no pun intended), but in reality the look-feel of it was small from the Visitor Center. It wasn't "bad" - just not the powerful experience I expected.

'Carlo, Look at that! That guy thinks he is invisible.'
'Yes Roberto, but let's pretend we don't see him...'
'I am going to empty the piss-bucket, and you watch him..'
A moment later.
'That was right in his face, and he still didn't move.'
'Great show. I dropped him a penny, so he would think that he succeeded.'

'Carlo, there is that guy again.'
'Ok. What shall we do now?'
'You know that pile of shit behind the barn. Let's put something in it.'
'Yes. Great idea. I have a silver here. And an old ring.'
'Let's add some bread and cheese to see if he will eat it...'
"Nothing to see here!"
"Guarding the treasure behind the barn!"
"I hope no-one will steal it!"

'That was great again.'
'Did you see his face when he ate that bread?'
'Priceless!'
'What do we do next?'
'...'

"Nothing to see here!"
"Nobody here!"
"Secret treasure behind that door!"
"Don't let anyone in!"
"Did anyone open that door?"
"I didn't see anything!"

'He walked straight into the troll-caves. '
'I hope that guy survives. I never had so much fun.'
'I would not last a minute in that cave. That stench is overwhelming.'
'I told the trolls he might be coming, so they are prepared. They have rocks hiding in their piles, hallucinating mushrooms, traps.
And planned a staged fight with a big troll.
They want to let him win, and bring him outside as soon he passes out due to the gasses.'
'I heard trolls can regenerate, even from death.'
'Yes. They will have lots of fun.'

"These thieves are getting bolder and bolder. They're not even trying to sneak anymore."
"Is that supposed to be stealthy? Because I can see you just fine."
"Nice try, but if you want to get past me, you will need more practice. After you get out of jail that is."
"Wherever you are, I will find you!"
"I swear I just heared something. Ah well, must have been the wind."
"What is this? An arrow in my friends throat? I should go back to sleep."
"God, guard duty is boring. Nothing ever happens. If I could at least take a litle sip of booze here and there... But then they say: "No Gordon, you gotta stay alert Gordon, if you ever get drunk on duty again we're gonna throw you from the wall, Gordon!"" Sigh "What a shitty job."

I've been on ruqqus for a bit, but I don't see the same potential you guys have. The reddit model is fundamentally sound, and ridiculously efficient at aggregating content/pulling people together. Reddit's many problems have been self-inflicted; I think as long as you guys continue to sanely administrate this place it could be big in no time at all. Ruqqus's changes don't feel like innovations so much as change for the sake of change. That being said my hope is ruqqus becomes the fun/meme haven, and saidit becomes the ideas hub, that both sites together fill the void spez seems determined to vacate

That has some links to some great obscure sites that sometimes have interesting content you wouldn't see elsewhere.

www.digg.com actually has interesting articles these days, but not many of them. But I do sometimes see stuff there I never see elsewhere.

He did "Angry White Boy Polka" and there was a part where I'm sure he needed to breathe but he didn't (not as fast as this song tho). Lots of energy, always on key and never out of breath. Was toward the front and he had a lot of flying spittle, didn't really detract from the show.

Songs of Protest 002 - A Perfect Circle: Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of The War Drums by VantaFount in music

[–]Chipit 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Nice! This song rocks all kinds of rock.

"George Floyd was a multiple felon who once held a pregnant black woman at gunpoint. He broke into her home with a gang of men and pointed a gun at her pregnant stomach. He terrorized the women in his community. He sired and abandoned multiple children, playing no part in their support or upbringing, failing one of the most basic tests of decency for a human being. He was a drug-addict and sometime drug-dealer, a swindler who preyed upon his honest and hard-working neighbors.

And yet, the regents of UC and the historians of the UCB History department are celebrating this violent criminal, elevating his name to virtual sainthood. A man who hurt women. A man who hurt black women. With the full collaboration of the UCB history department, corporate America, most mainstream media outlets, and some of the wealthiest and most privileged opinion-shaping elites of the USA, he has become a culture hero, buried in a golden casket, his (recognized) family showered with gifts and praise. Americans are being socially pressured into kneeling for this violent, abusive misogynist. A generation of black men are being coerced into identifying with George Floyd, the absolute worst specimen of our race and species."

COVID should be taken pretty seriously tho. Social distancing and quarantine is crucial, there are illnesses spreading right now that are of questionable origins. Lack of social distance or quarantine would just be detrimental down the road.

Gil Scott Heron’s classic The Revolution Will Not Be Televised has turned out to be spectacularly wrong. Listen to the lyrics. In fact, the revolution is everything the songwriter claimed it wouldn’t be. It is being televised and it is “being brought to you” by our woke corporations. by Chipit in music

[–]magnora7 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The TV is trying to paint it as a solely race-based protest to divide-and-conquer people though.

They're not portraying it as the unifying movement against police misconduct that it actually is.

So it's televised, but it's being spun to try and confused and dissuade people

He's saying this woke corporate bandwagon that's on TV is not the real revolution. I imagine he's right, and this will all fizzle out before the election without police policy and accountability being meaningfully addressed.

Naïve art (sometimes called primitivism) is usually defined as visual art created by a person who lacks formal education and training that a professional artist undergoes (in anatomy, art history, technique, perspective, ways of seeing). by JasonCarswell in Art

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Today I learned this term. For lack of this better term, in the animation studios we called it "nephew art", like what you'd hang on your fridge but generally not remotely commercial.

Last year I started a painting that I would consider faux-naïve art, intentionally crude yet commercial in order to try to develop a technique for smashing out art for cash. I got distracted by other projects and such so it remains unfinished. Not only is my meme-like painting more topical than ever in this police state world, the irony is that no one could buy it for what I'd want. Still, it's time to finish it, and some others.

Difference between "commentor" and "commentator" by JasonCarswell in Writing

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I found it looking for which was correct: "commenter" or "commentor" - and neither word was a thing until internet forums had comment sections. It seems the first one is accepted and the latter rejected as people who work farms are farmers not farmors, etc. with no shortage of examples like that.
