Terrifying and hard to watch! I needed this, I'm so tempted to take down some of my trees.

It's a nail biter for sure.

We can be certain that many of those fellas woke up sore the next morning... ;-)

fellinggonewild was a reddit favourite. I learn how to use my (small) chainsaw safety by watching people kill themselves doing it wrong, plus snarky reddit commentary

Reddit is/was good for some things.

I don't ever feel comfortable around running chainsaws. Irreversable damage.

However, in these videos the chainsaws are less dangerous than the trees!?

the rule is: ladder + chainsaw + no PPG = disaster.

PPG? What kind of PPG can protect from a chainsaw?

I'm envisioning full plate tree trimming?

chainsaw PPG is full of fibres that tear out and gum up the chainsaw

also, hardhat, face protection, gloves, steel toecaps, ear protection all play vital roles in keeping you safe.

So anyone who isn't wearing that set obviously is either unaware of how many different ways a tree can kill you, or doesn't care.

Put them on a ladder, cutting a branch, and you know they are idiots, and that the chance of them cutting the branch/tree badly so that either it, or the chainsaw, hits them, is high.

That material is badass.

yup. still don't quite believe it'll work if I ever hit my legs with the saw.

You should mount the chainsaw as a survival trophy if you're ever unlucky enough to use that PPG and you walk away from it.

May that day of using PPG never come!

Happy for it to be completely unecessary, foverver

As a tree care professional of 15 years in the industry, having worked in two world renown botanic and horticultural gardens, having taught and instructed at an agricultural college and having conducted my own private tree work in between, this video is agonising to watch. Clowns.

Those fellas are foolishly courageous beyond description.

Just to save a couple of bucks.

They should have emailed Prof. Myrkskog.

If the clip starts with a man on a ladder and a chainsaw in hand, you can guarantee it ends in tears, torn flesh, broken bones and internal bleeding.

And i'll probably want to watch it.

Aaaaaaand I might regret seeing it.

Just stick to the clips with houses, shacks and cars. Chances are they get crushed instead of the plonker revving the chainsaw. I remember seeing clips of a narcoleptic "tree cutter" from Florida when youtube was new and I was studying forestry/arboriculture. Scared the piss outta me.

[–]Tom_Bombadil[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

It's that narcoleptic tree cutter still around?

The first three results look familiar. James The Narcoleptic Tree Cutter. If memory serves, there's one bit where he's out on a super outstretched, possibly failed limb or stem, one handed cutting with a groundsaw at arms reach, then falls asleep mid-cut. There's some other horror show stuff that I'm forgetting. I can't watch this shit as it makes my soul want to exit out of my anus.

Narcoleptic tree cutting without a harness is not cool.

Those homeowners risked their property and that fool's life to save a couple of bucks. Disgraceful.

Hahaha, exactly! It's fair enough that the man doing the work is a clown, but what of the customer? Surely people can see or sense what is safe or not...? And to consent to some moron undertaking seriously dodgy work on your house, home, garden, car, body, soul, etc... I guess they must either be just as stupid or scared to speak up and tell them to fuck off.
