I liked how he slipped in there the argument that when he drinks, he wants a good strong drink to get him nice and drunk, not something that's been cut with water.

He did say that was in the past, not the present. When he was in the world he did that. I have also been in the world and know what he means.... to have been in sins of various kinds. I have also wasted valuable time and energy in drunkenness, but now I am free from that. I thank God I am healthy and no longer harm my body with excess.

The Lord gives us strength to overcome the world and its ways. Anyone can receive strength from God to overcome unhealthy behaviors. Jesus died on the cross to give us his Holy Spirit which overcomes the world and its temptations, when we ask for his help. Since he respects our free will, it is up to us if we want to avail ourselves of his help. But if you call on the Lord, be ready to leave your sins in the past, because he will make you a new creation. Life is so much better in the light.
