The guy is a moron. He said it broke down after 1500km and the battery needed to be replaced.

Eu has a 2 year guarantee policy. Tesla has a 4 year policy and 8 year guarantee on the battery. The car dealership was probably trying to rip him off. All he had to do was make 1 angry phone call to the major distribution dealership in Europe.

To add to his miseries, the car's warranty had expired as it was already eight years old.

I hope he didn't pay much for the car as its battery warranty was almost over!

How do you own a car and only drive 1500km in 8 years?

If it was bought second hand from the tesla dealership he still would have had 2 years guarantee EU warranty and a 4 years of second hand warrenty from Tesla.

Although the pollution from the explosion is probably not going to be fun. There's a lot of toxic chemicals in those batteries alone, not to mention the rest of the car. Guy should have just sold it for parts and put that towards a new car instead of trying to be some Youtube-famous douchebag.

It doesn't say what caused the damage. Was he in an accident or was it just routine wear and tear?

But yikes. That's almost the price of when of their new lower-cost models. Yeah, the battery does wear out and is the most costly thing to replace. I have relatives who had a Prius, and after a decade, they had to do the same thing. I think that was around $5k, so not as bad, but still an expensive repair on a decade old car.
