She mentioned LGBTQ only in one word, whereas the focus of her sermon was to ask for kindness in general. Listen to it, and think of Ephesians 4:32: "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." Hardly anyone in that room, or indeed here at Saidit understood the Christian necessity of her speech.

The content of her speach was however not extreme or 'left', but a standard Christian message. Christ would have mentioned the same points. She merely asked Trump to be kind, with specific examples. Any Christian would see that as essential to Christ's teachings. There are many who would call themselves Christian, or sit in a Christian church, who are not Christian in deed. She prepared that speech thinking about what Christ would do, given the same opportunity to talk to that particular crowd, which sits there because hatred and division won Trump and Republicans millions of votes. The only Christian option was to ask them to be kind, because they are not.

Unfortunately, Episcopalian clergy are quite liberal, although this woman seems very extreme even by those standards.

My pastor is a straight, married guy with kids, but he seems more pro gay than I am. And I’m an actual homosexual. I mean, I want a church that isn’t going to throw me and my partner out on the street, but I really don’t want them to suck the rainbow dick either.
