Over-40s on antibiotics ‘nearly 50 per cent more likely to develop Crohn’s disease’. Researchers followed more than six million people in Denmark for more than 10 years and found that taking antibiotics was linked to an increase in risk of inflammatory bowel disease.

I have chronic IBS, and I suspect it was caused by overprescription of antibiotics, one of my childhood doctors in particular prescribed antibiotics for everything. Now I suspect it was because if he just did nothing, people would feel ripped off for wasting their time on a doctor, because he didn't do anything else.
