While I agree with the sentiment, too many losers just use it as an excuse for mindless vandalism and property damage.

I absolutely agree. The space has been purchased legally and is within "public standards".

Ideally, it would be public standards I wish most would change. Forgoing that it would be legislation on the content (get rid of all the photoshop false advertising and subliminal social engineering) and if that failed, perhaps simply legislation on the amount of space per-capita/ad-time-per-time-of-content that can be sold/used for advertising.

Marketing is insidious by its very nature, but it's legal - thus far. No point getting shoved in the pokey for graffito when you could change the world in better ways. I guess Banksy can get away with it because: money?
