I tend to think that Reuters and the AP are pretty mainstream, and they tend to just report news as it happens. There are other pretty fair publications, like the Christian Science Monitor. And there are sites working really hard to police their own biases, like Newsweek.

We do have far too much "newstainment" right now. Apparently it's far more profitable than telling people the facts, because most people would rather have their biases confirmed than learn anything.

I've got as many of the newstainment sites blocked as possible.

Even AP has been showing growing progressive slants, as well as starting to add their own commentary to their articles.

I do not find any American mainstream news to be accurate at any time. I tend to try and get my news from other countries, as they have no hand in the pot and just report, as well as youtube news people as they also tend to have little to no slant (depending on the youtuber). Overall though, if I am talking to anyone who parrots crap from mainstream news, and it is quite easy to see when they do it, I just pretty much discount anything they say outright because I know they have not looked into it, and have no actual opinion about it other than what they were dictated to think.
