I wonder if the Trump thing is really just that he hit at the prime moment for social media buy-in? All politicians tend towards being sociopathic garbage, but discourse was controlled by the legacy media before this. So, was the Trump thing really a war between news media trying to keep their sagging relevance as the gatekeepers of the American Zeitgeist versus a public that was becoming far more skeptical of the narratives it was being fed?

It's been discussed a lot. He used his TV presence, CNN, Fox and especially Twitter to keep all attention on him while the GOP controlled congress gave themselves raises, major tax breaks, and deregulation for offshore acounts and much more. He had a team developing daily comments for Twitter, while helping the rich get much richer and while destroying the middle classes.

I don't disagree, but I also don't see a difference in this strategy between your Democrats and your Republicans.
