You don't have to be constantly censoring and checking yourself to be nice and not offend others. That's a choice. Most people realise that in their 20s and start picking their battles rather than sending mail bombs.

I wonder if the actual problem was that he was such a judgemental and critical (of others only) person that the stuff he had going on in his head was so nasty, vicious and uncalled for if he said a word of it he would appear just a mean, pathetic and possibly crazy person. And he knew that so keeping quiet mean he could keep on pretending he was normal, smart and superior and never had to face people's reactions to his hidden self.
