I don't understand why these forums don't operate their own forums on their own servers independent of outside control? Can someone explain what the advantages are to going with cocksuckers like Godady, what is it they offer that is so attractive? I know nothing of how these big forums work but I do know that years ago lots of forums ran themselves. Does saidit rely on on an outside platform? I wouldn't think so.

Every server is hosted somewhere. You can't own your own server farm if you are just a site owner. It's like having to own a farm so you can cook your own recipes.

There is a lot of infrastructure required to keep a website up that is owned by private companies, and then those companies use infrastructure owned by even more companies, all of which can pressure eachother or anyone hosting a website. For example, cloudfare provides DDOS protection, but if you're a naughty neonazi, they will pull your ddos protection.

Another example is a 2nd degree attack. For example, lets say you find a hosting company with servers that will host your dissident website. Great, but now the real estate investment trust that owns the building where the servers sit, threatens to not renew the hosts lease, since they host websites for neonazi skinhead terrorists.

Are there no loopholes, offshore hosts in Ecuador or Panama Et Al? Is there no way to host sites anonymously like with a some sort of VPN service? I'm not talking facebook, just little sites with moderate traffic.

Yes, there are many loopholes that vary depending on how bad they want to shut you down and how much resources you have. When you go offshore you start running into other challenges.

I was just thinking that my vpn, Expressvpn, has servers in countries all over the fucking world. I suppose though that is just for routing and not hosting. They say they keep no logs but I don't believe that. I would lol.

There is only one site that actually supports free speech which is hosted this way and they are constantly on the verge of bankruptcy and the owner has been personally attacked several times.

And no one has mentioned DNS. If they want you out, you're out. And a few months ago some DNS rules/laws completely changed, almost like they were preparing for something ;)
