Three key provisions of the USA Patriot Act, which give the Trump administration broad surveillance powers, are set to expire on March 15 unless Congress votes to reauthorize them. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is the only leading democratic presidential candidate in Congress who is publicly opposing them.

“I voted against the Patriot Act in 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2015. I strongly oppose its reauthorization next month,” he tweeted on February 11.

He's right. We don't need it anymore. We haven't needed it in over a decade. It hasn't helped us at all. It's time we got rid of it. Even he realizes that it's done nothing. Bernie will be one of the very few to vote against its reauthorization next month.

We didn't need it after 9/11 either, it was all based on damn dirty lies.

It was a knee-jerk reaction made during a time of panic when the public was scared.

The sky was falling all around us.

We didn't know who did it. Conspiracy? All we knew was the world looked like it was ending.

Only after dust settled did we realize the politicians had seized the moment to infringe upon our rights. That the "Patriot Act" was anything but.

We have the privilege to look back on 20 years worth of information. Hindsight is 20/20.

1000% conspiracy, it was engineered and executed nearly perfectly.
