Right. People generally don’t like pirating or violating the law.
It’s also a hassle.
If it was easier or cheaper, it would stop privacy (like you said above).
They also need to realize, there’s a whole segment of the population that would only watch it if it was free. And they should sort of take the publicity.
No matter what they do piracy will not be stopped, this new watermark BS is no problem getting around.
I agree, DMRs for video games like SafeDisc just made challenges for people to overcome. It became a prestige to crack a game.
According to the company selling this technology it not only watermarks videos and images, but arbitrary "documents" and even "designs". The watermark is so amazing that if you take a photo of a single frame of a watermarked video, it is still detectable. But wait, there's more!
It can also detect disinformation and fake news, like their own press releases, and will make you a coffee just the way you like it, and clean the gutters of your house. You can cut a tin can with it, and improve your fuel efficiency by 500%.

There are two major ways to stop piracy:
1) make it more convenient to view legally
2) make it less goddamn expensive to view it legally
The only reason netflix was successful is because it qualified both of these for the majority of popular media. Now that every major show is on its own paid streaming platform, neither is true, and the consumers are reacting accordingly.
