Instead of providing observable evidence(archeological artidacts) the author of the paper infers a direct attribution of shaman to be applied to a wide variety of occupations already known to have been of the first. While I don't object to this as valid, it doesn't cement the authors theory for me personally. Cool article and I appreciate the post!

Yeah and it's never going to be quite clear who did exactly what first anywhere.

I mean is "gatherer" a "profession", what about hunter? It's all very subjective.
