I wonder if this was well planned in advance, or if he had an intrusive thought about ending it all, and made up his mind and carried it out all within two seconds.

God, that's such an ugly thing to do to the people around you. That's going to haunt them the rest of their lives.

Went to Guam; enjoyed the beach, hiking, shooting range. The owner of the range was really jittery (and was making me nervous). After shooting there for quite a while, he started to loosen up and talk normally. Told me it happens from time to time, so he tries to watch carefully. "Ordered a day for 2, but only he showed up alone. Kind of quiet and introverted. Shot a couple of rounds before turning it on himself... These people think it is convenient out here away from peers. But we have to deal with it! I don't want me or my staff to ever have to see that! I try to watch for any clues on the drive over here. Just last week I told the guy, 'Sorry, we can't do it today.'"

Wow. I can't imagine having to deal with that. It's stellar of you to have told that guy no. You may have saved a life that day. My father and little brother both killed themselves with a gun. Not at the same time, but a few years apart. It's a heavy thing to deal with, that's for sure.
