That's arterial I reckon... Could be Carotid artery dissection from the force? Smacks his face, vein rips as he's knocked out, bleed finds a way through the damage? Purely speculation mind you.

The gist of it, at the beginning: “Take off your underpants too, you'll put them on dry afterwards”. Later, at the bridge: “Stop, there is ice! That side of the bridge is better! Stop!”

i'd be willing to bet alcohol woulda been a factor eh? even if the fall didn't kill him, bleeding would pretty quick, in a harsh climate i'd imagine you'd fade pretty fast
