SAO PAULO An off-duty military policeman responded to an assault on Monday (23) in São Paulo and killed one of the thieves. The other escaped with the police car, which was later recovered.

The case took place in Itaim Paulista, at number 401 of Enseada das Garulhos street. It was around 7:20 am on Monday when the PM was parked with a watchful colleague in his car, a white Honda Civic.

Video surveillance camera shows when the two men approach the car, which had just started. According to information from the Public Security Secretariat, the man who opens the driver's door is Bruno Quinta da Natividade.

Bruno removes the policeman from the car, while his companion enters the vehicle. On the passenger side, the guard who was with the PM opens the door and also leaves the Civic.

While fighting with Bruno, the policeman drew his gun. The assailant then runs and tries to get into the vehicle, and it is possible to identify at least two shots of the policeman from behind Bruno, who falls. The assailant's colleague runs away with the car after the first shot. The secretary informed that the affected man, Bruno, was taken to the Santa Marcelina hospital, but did not resist the injuries.

The policeman's car was found abandoned on Manuel Barbalho de Lima street, after colliding with a pole, less than a kilometer from the crime scene. The vehicle was returned to the owner after an investigation by the DHPP (Homicide and Person Protection Department, of the Civil Police).

The case was registered as theft, death resulting from opposition to police intervention, and location, seizure and delivery of the stolen vehicle. A DHPP investigation was launched to investigate the case. Bruno Quinta da Natividade's colleague is at large.
