Whenever I see someone just kinda waiting to get executed with a knife or a machete or some other primitive instrument, it always amazes me that they don't choose to run. They'll most likely get shot, but surely that's a much better death than being slowly decapitated?

To speak a little more on your question, they do mock executions. They will get everyone together and pretend they are going to kill them. Eventually they follow through. But that can go on for months even. That also plays a role in how passive the reactions are to these prisoners. They don't do mock executions everytime, but it's something that they do often enough to break them down.

I didn't watch it (because I don't think that would be good for me) but I assume they killed one after another? Did they see eachother and reacted to it?

I mean if it was mock before they would react to the real deal ... I think? But what do I know, I'm not in this situation after all

I do not think what you said is incorrect. One would think your reaction to seeing others killed like that would be more radical than calmly accepting your fate. Too many methods of making someone as numb as these prisoners to speculate a specific method used. The more likely scenario (imo) is mock executions are more common with single prisoner execution. Sometimes knowing your fate, is major freedom from the horrible parts of ones mind as well. Knowing you are about to die can put you in a euphoric state if you do not fight it. I only know this from multiple books from authors who's lives have been spent curious and looking for answers on death. If you ever get a chance and are not familiar with alan watts, you should check out his books. Great reads and some describe acceptance and death in great detail.

Idk, a clean IS style decapitation seems like a fairly okay way to go for me. I'd pick IS over the fucking zetas any day. Most of the IS executions are very quick. I mean, getting flattened by a tank is brutal, but there's no way your brain functions for more than a split second.

But for the slower executions... I fully agree, wtf don't they run. That said, IS' most painful executions seem to keep the victim in a cage, like the drowning vid or the Jordanian pilot getting burned.

Could be that they fear of not being shot to death as a result, but tortured instead. Or they are threatened that any resistance will have their relatives share their fate. If it's not a captured soldier or tourist, it likely is a civilian they dragged off from the town, as they 'weed out' the heretics.

Elsewhere I've read once that the feeling of absolute defeat will make them accept the end, thus some don't even scream anymore.
