Man, there was one brave soul there pouring water on people, that's a guy who deserves sainthood.

People on fire are very dangerous to help because the fire can transfer to you very easily. YOu rarely see people attempt to help like this.

Sadly what kills you in fires is 99% of the time asphyxiation, as you can't breathe through the fire and breathing in the superheated-air scorches your lunges. Even if you survive the initial burn if your lunges are to damaged it'll just be infection paired with shitloads of fluids gathering there.
