With age can come wisdom, but you have to choose to accept it. Some people are obstinately stupid, especially old people. So old people at least the ones I know anyways, always seem to be either extremely wise or extremely stupid, no inbetweens.

We live in a very safe society these days. Unprecedented in human history really.

In the past if you were old it meant you'd managed to avoid death for a long time. So of course you were smart. If you weren't you wouldn't get old.

These days with the wonders of medical technology and just a safer society in general with lower crime rates all around, idiots manage to reach old age as well.
