The left equates Islam with race. It has allowed them to stifle any criticism of the religion as racist and therefore they don't have to do any due diligence or research. They can just say "racism" (a word they've already redefined as systemic rather than simply bigotry around race) and cancel you. Same thing they do with transgender, vaccines, the pay gap, climate change - any number of planks in their platform. It's an effective strategy that ensures no one actually has to have an educated opinion. They can just lean on the established narrative and cancel anyone who bucks.
