It wouldn't surprise me if this was directly related to a changes in various hormone levels.

Teenagers begin acting out during puberty.

Mid-life adults may also react to biological changes in various ways. Notably age-associated.
Like buying a convertible, or getting a divorce, and stuff.

Also, something about apes and male pattern baldness.

Life is never easy.
